High Angle

this angle may be of the same extent as a birds eye view but has a completely different feeling, a birds eye view shows what is being seen, but a high angle shot shows what you are being seen as and this shot makes a character or object look very small and with no sense of power it can also make the character look weak and a sense of depression and insecurity. the object gets swallowed up by the setting and often becomes part of the background as if they have ni importance, this shot would be very interesting to use in my trailer but change through the stages of her life starting at a high angle when she is younger to show weakness, ending in a low angle to show her power and her change in life.

a low angle increases height and gives a sense of speeded emotion, they help give a sense of confusion to the viewer, of powerlessness within the action of a scene.
he added height of the object may make it inspire fear and insecurity in the viewer, who is psychologically dominated by the figure on the screen.

Birds eye view

This shows a scene from directly overhead, a very unnatural and strange angle. Familiar objects viewed from this angle might seem totally unrecognisable at first (umbrellas in a crowd, dancers' legs). This shot does, however, put the audience in a godlike position, looking down on the action. People can be made to look insignificant, ant-like, part of a wider scheme of things. Hitchcock (and his admirers, like Brian de Palma) is fond of this style of shot.

this shot shows a visible view from directly overheard showing objects in a much smaller position. it is a very strange and unatural angle as it only shows objects or characters from a top angle maybe only highlighting the tops of their heads. familiar objects may seem totally unrecognisable at first, such as umbrellas and people even legs, it however puts the audience in a powerful prospective god like in fact a sense of power and direction.

after reading information of this shot i ahve varied my opinions of this and feel it would be good to use this angle to show clear understandings of the characters surroundings and the extent of how much happiness is around such a sad little girl.
The realtionship between the camera and the object that is being shot gives information about emotion to the audience, and lets them decide their own judgment and feelings about the character or object that is being filmed. The more extreme the angle (ie the further away it is from eye left), the more symbolic and heavily-loaded the shot.

extreme close up

As its name suggests, an extreme version of the close up, generally magnifying beyond what the human eye would experience in reality. An extreme close-up of a face, for instance, would show only the mouth or eyes.

this isn't really important for me as it doesn't necessarly need to be used as none of my shots need top be really close up to show that extent of detail the closer i feel my camera needs to get is a close up shot no more than that.

Close up!

This shows very little background, and concentrates on either a face, or a detail of mise en scene. This shot magnifies the object (think of how big it looks on a cinema screen) and shows the importance of things, be it words written on paper, or the expression on someone's face. The close-up takes us into the mind of a character. In reality, we only let people that we really trust get THAT close to our face - mothers, children and lovers, usually - so a close up of a face is a very intimate shot. A film-maker may use this to make us feel extra comfortable or extremely uncomfortable about a character.

this shot can be used in my trailer but only in scenes where a lot of detail needs to be visible, for example from my storyboard in a shot where letters and words have to be clearly visible to the audiences eye.

Mid Shot

Contains a figure from the knees/waist up and is normally used for dialogue scenes, or to show some detail of action. Variations on this include the TWO SHOT (containing two figures from the waist up) and the THREE SHOT (contains 3 figures...). NB. Any more than three figures and the shot tends to become a long shot. Another variation in this category is the OVER-THE-SHOULDER-SHOT, which positions the camera behind one figure, revealing the other figure, and part of the first figure's back, head and shoulder.

this shot contains a figure from the knees - waist up. it is normally used for scenes that contain some sort of speech or relationship. this can also be reframed as a two shot containing to characters in a mid shot which would show some sort of relationship between the two characters, but still from the waist up. it can also contain 3 figures but anymore than 3 figures it is normally classed as a long shot as there are a vary of characters causing a wider approach and not as much detail.

this shot fits in perfect with my trailer as i only want to focus on my characters top half of her body just to show detailes of her emotions but in a held back way that is why i wish not to use a close up as i feel it will be to full on and want it to be kept as natural as possible as if someone is just sitting their watching her not up in her face.

Long Shot!

The most difficult to precisely categorise, but generally one which shows the image as approximately "life" size ie corresponding to the real distance between the audience and the screen in a cinema (the figure of a man would appear as six feet tall). This category includes the FULL SHOT showing the entire human body, with the head near the top of the frame and the feet near the bottom.

in other words it is a bit closer than an extremely long shot and shows more detail of surroundings and things that seem closer to us.

this shot could be useful in my piece as i could show a small clip of the surroundings and the environment in which she is in which could highlight a frame in my storyboards that responds to familys which could also highlight them in the background, this angle could be useful but i would have to do more experimenting to totally agree.

Extreme Long Shot!

Can be taken from as much as a quarter of a mile away, and is generally used as a scene-setting, establishing shot. It normally shows an EXTERIOR, eg the outside of a building, or a landscape, and is often used to show scenes of thrilling action eg in a war film or disaster movie.

This Shot can be taken from a far distance such as long as a quarter of a mile away, it is usually used as a scene setting or establishing shot. it generally shows an exterior, eg the outised of a building, or a landscape. it is continuously used in war films or disaster movies to show scenes of thrilling action.

this shot i don't think would be axactly the shot that i would want to use, where i have no created my story boards i now no the setting of my film and which scenes are going to be used and i have no large landscapes apart from a sandy beach which will have a small child on it which will be the main focus and also i will have no scenes or thriling action or disaster apart from emotionally so i don't think this shot would be ideal.
When describing camera positions (or shots), different terms are used to indicate the amount of subject matter contained within a frame, how far away the camera is from the subject, and the perspective of the viewer. Each different shot has a different purpose and effect. A change between two different shots is called a CUT.

When choosing camera angles or deciding which ones to use you have to think about different aspects such as, the framing or the length, the angle and if there is any movement involved.

Angle's

Angle's a major effect to a video or trailer as there are many different types of angle's that create different effect and different emotions of the audience they have to be used in a delicate and careful way to show clear understanding of the direction of movement and be clear not to cross the 180' rule unless panning. i feel that angles are quite straight forward as in my trailer i am going to use a few mid shot's to not show a very vivid and clear emotion of my characters emotions but just a clear picture of how she seems to feel and the way in which her body is demonsrating feelings.

My Pitch!

in my previouse lesson, i created a pitch including all my information about my research so far, and what has inspired me and what my views and opinions are so far on my project, i started by describing which genre we have chosen and explaining to th rest of my class, which stage we are at, at the moment, i think this helped other people to decide which other steps they need to take and what other valid information they need to include to show their full research on their project, including genre, and target audience which i think are both very important factors, my pitch also included viewings of each of my groups blogs, to see what we have included and how much information needs to be visible to the blog. in my pitch i also commented on the videos that i have researched resembling to child abuse, and the way in which they have inspired me and also the variouse different ideas that they have given me i also commented on how there are different types of child abuse and how they vary from mild to severe. my blog shows all this imfromation clearly. my pitch i think was succesefull and also by listening to other groups ideas and listening to the research that they have looked into it gave me many ideas of what i need to do next, like looking at angles, and story lines and what makes an opening sequence effective.

in this video it is clear that the abuse on this girl effects a wide range of her normal life issuses, such as school she cannot read and finds it difficult to undeerstand things this is clear that the abuse has done this to her. abuse can cause many ilnesses such as depression and also if gets seriouse enough can lead to death. Also the abuse that is witnessed in this clip is very harsh just the sound of the slap to this girls head seems very painful and also creates a wide range of sympothy for this girl as soon as she gets hit she stops eating. in this clip it also shows that abuse to a girl of an older age can cause death or self harm to themselves that is clearly shown in this video as it looks as if she is overdosing down an alley away from public viewers.

Sunday 7 December 2008

i looked into videos and adverts that were associated with child abuse and i come across this video. it inspired me to move further as when i was looking at it, it highlighted in text that her mum blames her daughter for everything bad that has happened in her life and everything that has gone wrong. this told me that most children that are abused have nothing to do with the fact that they are abused, it is completely upto the parent for their abuse towards their child. some children are born into famalies that do not want them and are neglected physically and emotionally.

main causes of child abuse is physical but there are also different factors such as emotionally abuse, neglect, sexual abuse psychological abuse and a few others. Many children that are abused are scared for the rest of their life and find it hard to overcome this.

Thursday 4 December 2008

Baby P has been highlighted in the news a lot over the last few weeks, it has been a shock to the public and of course a very large shock to members of his family. this inspired me and it fits in with my research about how people must feel knowing that someone close to them has been abused, and also knowing that someone they knew has been abusing.

Baby P has raised a lot of awarness about child abuse and this is the same effect that i want my video to give i want people to go away and think about what they have seen and try and change the fact of child abuse and the way in which the current situation is rising, i want this to raise awarness to all who have never experienced to child abuse and also those who have. i want my video to be just as effective as the news of baby p, i dont want to compete with the awarness that he raised just to carry on raising awarness for it and to change peoples thoughts and feelings about child abuse.

Target Audience!

Our Genre, SOCIAL REALISM appeals to most generations of audience, including young to elderly viewers, we want our title sequence to appeal to all viewers, and to make them all feel comfortable watching our video. We are trying to appeal to a varied audience and including in our video different things that will make the viewers think.

we also want to include a type of technique that will make our viewers think, and create a different type of feeling for them, creating sympathy and pity for those who have been abused, also to appeal to our audience we want to include new information and new ideas and thoughts that haven't been brought up before making them think about chuild abuse a bit more and the way in which it can effect others.

our target audience we would liek to feed back to us what they think so we no for you the future what further progress we would have to make.
Our target audience is an important part os this project as not only does it need to be structured and proffesional it needs to be appealing and correct in all factors highlighting key points that the audience will find interesting.

The Genre I Am WOrking On!

Social realism is a genre in fiction, art, architecture, movies and plays. It describes the daily life of people and the realistic events which happen in their lives. It was popular in Russian literature, and became the main genre in the Soviet Union.

i have chosen this genre as i feel it will be a great opportunity to appeal to my auidience and express different views and opinions of the way in which different people feel and think about child abuse. i also chose this as child abuse is a factor that effects most people it is most frightening for it to happen to you and also how it must feel to no someone that it has happened to before, someone who may be close to you. i feel this is a good idea as it is individual and out of the ordinary and also a very emotional and technical process to create the right effect and meaning of creating this opening sequence on child abuse. it has to be very effective to the audience and appeal in a different way that makes them feel pity and sympothy for those who have experienced it.

Questionaire

1. What Do You Find Most Revolting About Child Abuse?

The worst thing about child abuse is the fact that people thinks it’s good and acceptable to hurt young beings that are so defenceless and helpless and have no way to protect themselves, child abusers think it is an easy way to abuse young children as they are very vulnerable, another thing that disgust me is how they get pleasure out of it how they find it fun and involving to hurt someone so small, I mean children of ages 6 months have been sexually abused and it is so wrong no one has the right to do that, they should all be locked up and left to rot.

2. How Would you feel if someone close to you was sexually abused or physically abused by someone you knew?

I wouldn’t no how to feel, it would revolt me so much I would probably be physically sick, I would go absolutely mad, I mean if it was someone I knew someone I trusted not only would they be abusing the child they would be abusing my trust to no I have believed in them and trusted them for so long. And if someone close to me was abused if would hurt me so much to no I haven’t protected them and to no I didn’t no anything about it how could that of escaped my attention.

3. Why do you think young children that are abused do not tell family and people that can help them?

Well I believe that once you have been hurt physically or mentally by someone that you thought you loved and someone that you thought loved you, it is hard to trust anyone because you never no when they might switch into that person that has hurt you before, I also think that young children don’t say anything as they believe if they do things will get worse and it may start to happen a lot more to maybe more people, maybe the child wants to keep the abuser as happy as possible so it happens the least it can but this isn’t right sexual or physical abuse shouldn’t happen, there should be more people for young children to be able to talk to in confidence, just to help them through. I believe it is difficult for a abused child to move on in life as memories of this abuse will live through you for the rest of your life.

these are the three main questions i wanted to ask to see just one reaction of thoughts towards child abuse, and it is clearly a very disgusting and revolting process for a person to think about. i may include this sort of structure in my opening sequences to show people's responses to make my audience think and feel others pain.

Planning!

Myself Josie And Kameisha have come up with the idea to create an opening sequence based on child abuse, we are currently working on a stroyline but want to include as much detail as possible in such a short space of time to give the effect that out film is overloaded with interesting facts about child abuse and also as if there is not a moment to spare in the film where there is something not going on.

At the Moment our planning is going to express further into thinking about what our storylines are going to be, and what our main objective is and which point we want to express to the audience, so far the ideas that i have come up with is neglect and starvation towards the child, as if the parents are acting as if she is not there, and also random abuse on the child for no particular reason. We want to express to our audience how we feel about their emotions towards child abuse and how they would feel if it was to happen to them or someone close to them.

My next task for my planning of this project, is to find out what poeple find most revolting about child abuse, and to see their thoughts and feelings are of it, and find a way to include this in my opening sequence maybe, using people's thoughts to act out a sign of help, and to give a clear picture to viewers that most people are disgusted with child abuse and want to help to raise awareness of it and stop it.

Psycho

This video i took from you tube as whn i watched it, i could instantly see how he prospective had been put into this video, the way in which he uses lines as a source of direction gives a clear similarity to the rest of his work as he often uses lines and arrows as such wihich all clearly once again give away the sense of direction but are all travelling forward.

also in this saul bass piece the music is very interesting as it gives the effect of something scary and something not quite right as if a warning to the viewers before they view it! it also seems very detailed and a lot of effort and thought hjas been put in this piece to link it all together the music is also very sharp and straight forward just like the lines that he uses in his opening sequences.

The Great Saul Bass

A part of our media task is to do a 500 word essay about saul bass and a few of his title sequences.

Saul Bass is an American Graphic Designer, he started his career in 1954. Saul bass famoulously known for his motion picture designing. during his 40-year career he worked for some of Hollywood's greatest film maker's, including most notable Alfred Hitchcock. Bass is one of the first to realize the creative potential of the opening and closing credits of a movie and so he turned them into graphic designs. Saul Bass designed title sequences for 40 years including, West Side Story, Physcho and many more. after watching a short documentary of Saul Bass, he explained to his audience his path of his career and how he got into the film making industry. he explains how the title sequence introduces the whole process of the film

Big Girl Little Girl. BBC Short Films.

i was reasearching into films that are associated with child abuse, and the way in which young children think and feel about things, and the way in which their emotions change and develop towards different members of family and also friends, this video shows a clear visulisation of how a young seven year old child feels about her uncle and the jealousy that she feels when he brings a new girlfriend home. I found this interesting as it links into my genre of my film and also gave me a few ideas to involve in my piece of film.

This Video i found on you tube and it is officially known as a song that is based on child abuse. i decided to use this piece of music for my opening sequence piece as i am basing it on child abuse and i feel this music fits in great to my genre.

i also wanted to use this as the video gave me many ideas of what to include in my vidoe, such as neglect and intolerance, a child going without food and not having the proper care that a parent should offer a child.
